Buffalo City Doubles Championship: A Spectacular Display of Teamwork and Skill

The Buffalo Club hosted an incredible two-day squash showcase as the City Doubles Championship brought thrilling rallies, strategic play, and excellent sportsmanship to the courts. With intense matches across multiple divisions, the tournament celebrated doubles squash at its finest.

“Thank you to everyone who made the City Doubles Championship a success,” said Whit Mittlefehldt, tournament organizer and Vice President of the BSRA. “We are grateful to all the competitors for their dedication and sportsmanship. A big thank you to the club pros, the BSRA board, and the Buffalo Club for hosting this fantastic event. Special thanks to Tom Hayes for his help in organizing at the Buffalo Club.”

Match Highlights

Tuesday Matches

  • Men A: In a tightly contested final, Charlie Barth and Bo Gurney edged out Dave Pfalzgraf and Mike Rautenstrauch in a five-game battle. With both teams exchanging momentum, Barth and Gurney secured the victory 3-2.
  • Men B: Dave and Jack Pfalzgraf showcased excellent chemistry, sweeping John Cleary and Bo Gurney 3-0 with smart positioning and consistent shot-making.
  • Men C: Chase Martin and Eric Felgemacher won by default after Peter Marlette Jr. and Jack Knox were unable to compete due to Knox’s unfortunate ACL injury in a prior match. Wishing him a smooth and speedy recovery!

Wednesday Matches

  • Women A: Sisters Petra and Cara Derose played a strong, cohesive match, defeating Rebecca Brady and Hope Lynch 3-0 with impressive teamwork and sharp shot placement.
  • Women B: A competitive round-robin format determined the division’s outcome, with spirited play from all teams. Danielle Larrabee and Sarah Denman went undefeated in both matches and were declared the winners of the Women’s B draw.
  • Mixed Doubles: Charlie Barth and Pamicka Marinello teamed up to take down Gui Alvarez and Rebecca Brady in a well-fought 3-1 match, using smart angles and well-timed attacks to claim the win.
