At the 2025 BSRA Year-End Celebration held at the Saturn Club, the Buffalo squash community gathered to recognize league winners, city champions and outstanding contributors to the game. Among the evening’s awards, Sally Russell received the BSRA Adult Achievement Award for her decades of service and leadership in local squash. But the biggest surprise came at the end of the ceremony, when Carey Anderson of the US Squash Board of Directors stepped up to surprise and present Sally with the US Squash Women’s Achievement Bowl—the highest national honor for advancing the women’s game.
This prestigious award, the oldest women’s award in US Squash, is presented by the Women’s Committee to individuals who have made significant and lasting contributions to women’s squash. Sally’s 50-year impact on the Buffalo squash scene—including her work in league development, junior programs, and community building—made her a standout recipient.
Sally was nominated by her long-time squash friends Mary Sellers Pici, Anne Denman, and Danielle Larrabee.
The news has since been featured on the US Squash website, Instagram and in their newsletter sent to thousands of US Squash members nationwide.
Congratulations to Sally on this well-deserved national recognition and for representing Buffalo squash on the highest stage.
